Sterling Wine Vintner’s Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

This review is of the Sterling Wine – Vintner’s Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 from the Central Coast of California. The wine poured a deep ruby color. According to Sterling wine, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is their “shining star” that “combines ripe rich character with elegance and poise”.

Sterling Wine Vintner’s Collection Cabernet Sauvignon Review

Sterling Wine Cabernet SauvignonThe aroma was deep, earthy and of well ripened black cherry. I found the nose to be very noticeable and quite long lasting. The wine’s taste was of black berries and black cherry. It also exhibited a multi-textured flavor that included earthy black currant jam with a hint of smokiness.

It had a cottony mouthfeel and cheek affecting fruit forward tannins.  The finish was of medium duration and carried forward the black currant flavors.

Overall, I really enjoyed this Sterling wine. I’ve had other Sterling varietals in the past that I’ve enjoyed. So, I was not surprised by the pleasantness of this wine as well. Paired with lamb or a meaty pizza, this barrel aged fruit forward treat is a great choice!

If you like California cabs, you may also like the Charles Krug 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon or the Edna Valley Vineyard 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon both being good choices.
