Snoop Dogg 19 Crimes Cali Red Review

Snoop Dogg Wine Bottle 19 Crimes Cali Red

Snoop Dogg 19 Crimes Cali Red comes from Sonoma, California, USA.

While it’s unknown what the full blend is for this wine, the tasting notes clue us in to Petite Sirah and Zinfandel.

Snoop Dogg 19 Crimes Cali Red Wine Review

From the Snoop Dog wine bottle label:

19 Crimes tells the true story of rulebreakers who beat the odds, overcame adversity and went on to become folk heroes in their society.  This spirit lives on today through innovators and culture creators, like Cali’s own Snoop Dogg.

Snoop Dogg Wine App

To start, there’s an app that makes the Snoop Dogg wine bottle talk.

The app is called Living Wine Labels by Treasury Wine Estates.

Here’s how to use the Living Wine Labels app to get Snoop to talk to you:

  1. Get on your phone and go to your app store.
  2. Find and install the free app called Living Wine Labels.
  3. Open the app and swipe through the instructions.
  4. Scan the bottle label when prompted, using your phone’s camera.
  5. The Augmented Reality (AR) experience will start as you keep the phone pointed at the label.
  6. Your Snoop wine bottle label (Snoop’s picture) will start talking to you.  “Glasses Up!”
  7. After he talks, you can move your phone away from the label, and then back to the label for more Snoop chat.  “Gotta thank myself for that.”
  8. And more…  Seriously, it’s pretty cool!  Try it.

The AR experience isn’t just limited to Snoop Dogg 19 Crimes Cali Red.

There are other wines from 19 Crimes that also have the AR experience with their labels, using the Living Wine Labels app.

And according to the app itself, other wine brands have living labels too, including Beringer, Matua, Lindeman’s and others.

Appearance

OK, with all that out of the way, let’s move on to the actual review.

In the glass this wine appears dark plum in color.

I also noted a lovely red-purple meniscus at the outer edge.

A tip and spin really coated up the glass with a translucent purple hue.

And finally, legs were numerous and slow to fall.

Aroma

The wine was quite aromatic, with a decent medium intensity that was even bolder up close.

I noted combo aromas of red fruits and secondary, sweet spice notes.

There was a bit of alcohol in the nose, as well.

Snoop Dogg 19 Crimes Cali Red alcohol content 14.1% by volume, per the bottle.

Taste

I tasted the 2019 vintage of Snoop Dogg 19 Crimes Cali Red.

I thought I’d review this wine’s taste by answering a couple of this wine’s most searched questions.

What does Snoop Dogg wine taste like?

Snoop Dogg 19 Crimes Cali Red tastes like a nicely balanced red blend, with notes of black cherry, vanilla and candied raspberry.

I found the taste to include 2 flavors that occurred in succession.

First, black cherry with a slight hint of vanilla.

Second, a transition to a lighter, candied raspberry.

This one two punch occurred very consistently and I thoroughly it.

A simple complexity, if there is such a thing!

Is Snoop Dogg’s wine sweet?

At first sip, you might notice some lightly-sweet black cherry but it soon transitions to a long-finishing candied raspberry flavor.

Mouthfeel and Tannins

Snoop Dogg 19 Crimes Cali Red had a juicy mouthfeel with noticeable and well-integrated tannins.

Finish

Finish was long, with just a bit of vanilla sweetness at first verse.

However, in the end, it’s the tannins that finish the song for this one.

Overall Opinion of Snoop Dogg 19 Crimes Cali Red

Overall, I found this red blend wine to be enjoyable and especially liked the above-mentioned, one two punch with each sip.

Good job 19 Crimes!

  1. I bought a bottle of Snoops Cali Red because of being a fan. No disrespect towards Snoop by any means, but this wine was not meeting my palates desires of wanting more. I sipped it twice and only because I didn’t trust my first. It has a bland almost stale taste about it. It’s smell reminded me of a nursing home honestly. I wasn’t going to drink any originally because I wanted to hold onto the bottle as a nostalgia momento type thing but my curiosity got the better of me. I bought my bottle back in early 2021 and opened it today. I had such high hopes and now I’m let down. Maybe it’s a possibility that red wine isn’t for me, but hopefully I can find something else of his; that’s if he has any white wines of a sort. This shall not discourage me from anything else he may have on the shelves. TBC!

    1. Hi Jasmine!

Thanks for commenting on my review and for your honest thoughts.

Yikes! Nursing home smell is definitely not good in a wine. Wondering if maybe you got a bad bottle.

Here’s hoping your next bottle of wine is a better one!

      Cheers!

    2. I have to say that I love this wine and its mellowness. I also enjoy collecting the different snoop corks

  2. I loved it. On my second bottle. Of course I love Martha and Snoop but I’m a dedicated fan of this wine. I’m not an expert, I don’t know much on swirling the glass nor top notes etc, but ok do know what I like. Looking for other wines to add to my rack…along with this wine.

  3. My husband and I tried a bottle of Snoop cali red it was absolutely horrible we could not take a third sip we threw it away will never buy again

  4. The Cali Red wine was not what I expected it is way too dry and not good just down right disgusting!

  5. For the price I think it’s really good. It doesn’t drink like a 65.00 bottle of Caymus but that wasn’t what I expected, I’ll buy it again.

  6. Interesting. I thought it was very tobacco- forward. On the nose and palette. The second flavor I picked up was spice and then plum. Tasted the vanilla at the end. Overall smooth and a little velvety.

    1. A 2020 bottle I just opened (Jan 2023) is overpoweringly sweet with no complexity. Maybe it does not age well. Maybe 2020 was a bad year due to all the ash fallout from the Sonoma fires. No pedigree, so who knows.

  7. I recently bought a bottle of SNOOP DOG’s CALI RED. Why is SNOOP DOG’S name blacked out on the label? I placed the bottle on my bar and everyone is curious about that? Anyway I love the picture of him, ITS REALLY KEWL! lol

    1. Thanks for commenting, Sylvia.

Great question! The word California is blacked out too.

I don’t know the answer, but I bet it’s some sophisticated marketing trick!

… And it’s probably working since we’re talking about it… LOL!

      Cheers!
      Jon

  8. I agree so much with your review. I am a wine snob absolutely love the aroma and taste I brought one bottle to taste then I went back and purchased twelve more. Just wanted to have plenty on hand and enough to share with family and friends as gift.
