J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon Review
J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon Seven Oaks comes from the J Lohr vineyards in the Estrella Hills area of Paso Robles, California, USA.
They state that this is one of only three appellations in California that produce “world class” Cabernet Sauvignon.
According to the bottle label, J Lohr (Jerry Lohr) practices the French system of planting each grape variety in its ideal appellation. They also state that optimum rootstock and clones are selected to ensure quality control.
J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon is a very popular wine and is easily found in many stores and restaurants.
For this review, I tasted the 2010 vintage.
J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Review
The cork was in quite tight and barely any wine had penetrated it.
In the glass, J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon was a deep purple color and it appeared thick and hearty. Swirling the wine revealed large bubbles of wine suspended in the glass.
On the nose, the wine was very aromatic. Some alcohol was noticed but the primary aromas were of violets and cherry. According to the bottle you may also notice hints of blueberry and vanilla. Also, the aroma was noticed from afar. Overall, quite pleasant.
J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon alcohol content 13.5% by volume per the bottle.
The wine’s taste gave forth a well balanced flavor of pure Cabernet Sauvignon. Overtones of dark cherry and perhaps even a hint of sage or maybe toasted wood were also noticed.
Firm mid tongue tannins were felt, as promised by the bottle. The mouthfeel was velvety in texture.
The finish was medium length and enjoyable.
Overall, J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon was a great straightforward and uncomplicated Cabernet Sauvignon. Definitely drinkable now and likely even better with age.
My favorite element was the lofty aroma.
For a pairing, consider the bottle’s suggestion of grilled or roasted red meats. This is a great steak wine. Give it a go!
J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon price about $21.99.
